The Battleship USS Iowa is the West Coast’s only battleship that is open to the public. Located in Berth 87 at the Port of Los Angeles, the battleship was once the lead ship of her class. During WWII, the ship carried President Franklin D. Roosevelt across the Atlantic to Algeria, en route to a crucial meeting with Prime Minister Winston Churchill of Britain and Josef Stalin of the Soviet Union. The ship also served as the Third Fleet flagship, flying Adm. William F. Halsey’s flag at the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay.
